I've finally been moving into our get-away cabin. It's taking some time to get everything where I want it. Still working on the little details, the ones that make ALL the difference. Still need to hang pictures, only a few. And a peg board behind the door for shawls and hats and scarves and such. Sorry this picture is blurry. With only candle light and oil lamps I guess thats why it done that. It's a bit challenging taking photos for some reason. Unless it's just the person behind the camera, duh..... In this photo you can see my grandma's windsor rocker, my antique writing desk, and the old brass bed. But I'm not sure yet if I like the bed or not. If you see anything out of place forgive me, I'm still working. Such as the dishtowel behind the rocker, laying on the floor.

Beautiful picture. You must have an upstairs loft, hence the ladder. What is the sq. footage? MB
OH Mikki, I think I'm almost as excited as you are. This is just the most fun, I want to come and play. Everything looks so nice, and you mentioned that picture you have that your dad got selling red clover, well my Great grandfather sold that when he was a boy, this stuff must have been around for awhile. Anyway My aunt Glenda has a picture that he gave to his mother when he sold the salve,so I think we are going back to the 1800's. Anyway, you can see the picture in the background when I was at my aunts and had a picture taken wth her. Its on my site someplace.
Please keep showing pictures, love to see them.

Yes, is there a loft upstairs? I'd love to see a pic of that.
What a lovely, lovely cabin! Thank you for sharing your pictures and ideas. We are hoping to get to our cabin next week some time. There's been too much snow in the mountains, but it looks like it's melting and we are ready for 'cabin life' again. Do you have to worry about cougars and bears when you go to the outhouse at night? It always makes me pretty cautious.
In my opinion you should not do much more to it...simplicity, the less is more theory..ya know!
I like it the way it is so far!
easier to keep clean too
;)
Being new to your blog I don't have the history behind this cabin but oh my how lovely it is. How far is it from where you live? Did you just buy it or are you just now fixing it up? I'm full of questions and wonder!!!
Yes, there is a loft. It's small but cute. Plenty of room to sleep though. I wish you were here to play to Nancy! We'd have a blast!!! That redclover salve has been around a long time, and you can still buy it online somewhere. I seen a site where they sell all the old salves and elixirs somewhere. Not done anything to the loft yet. I just slung a queen size blowup mattress up there for now, lol. No bears or cougars, but plenty of coyotes. It's that screech owl in the woods that gives me the heart attack when it sounds off. I know what it is everytime, but for a split second I'm always freaked. I've put up with that thing for 20 years, lol. I think simplicity is best too. Much more pleasing to the eye. Thanks for all the nice comments!
The amish built us the cabin, and we had it moved here. It's just across the creek on the side of my house, at the edge of the woods. A creek runs behind and in front of the cabin. In front is all woods and the creek runs through there. It's beautiful about any time of the year there. I love it. Perfect spot and I can see it from my house. I just have to walk across the creek to get there, we're going to build a foot bridge this summer. Cabin is 14x20 with a 20 ft porch.
Looks great Mikki, I love the way you have it, and you must show off the outside too, would love to see that creek! The cabin is just perfect!!
What a treat to have it built by the Amish. They do such quality work. Enjoy!

Just read that your cabin is right across the creek from your house. That's terrific, no long commute, LOL!
I agree with the other's who said it looks lovely in its simple state. I know you are going to enjoy it.
