NO GRANDMA MOSES

A couple years ago me and my mom and my sister went to Stream Cliff Farms. It's a flowergarden/tearoom and they were giving short lessons on primitive grandma moses style painting. Well, this was my first attempt. I have never finished it as you can see the mucky looking piece to the right of the sidewalk. Don't know what I had tried to do, but was attempting to fix it, lol. And don't know why I jumped ahead and signed the darned thing, before I've even finished it. Don't know why I even signed it, attempting to feel like a painter maybe? Well, considering it all, I will say I was quite proud of my first attempt. My mothers painting was very good too, hers was of a sheep. But, my little sisters? Well, hers looked like a tree with fingers. I'm not putting her painting down, but it was hideous. It's kind of a family joke, we tease her about it. There's LOTS of things she can do, but primitive painting, and especially tree branches??? NOT, nope, not her thing. And she'll tell you so too. Mom fixed it but it turned out to be a sheep I do believe. How do you get a sheep out of a tree you ask? Well, all I can say is, you shoulda seen the tree!

Hello from a fellow Hoosier. I love that old cabin. My husband and I are looking for something like that. It would be interesting to see how well the inside is preserved.

Thanks for posting this. I have thought to be able to sit down with a canvas and paints and capture a beautiful scene from nature (sunrise, sunset, mountain, river, etc) must be such a wonderful thing to be able to do. I have no talent at all on those lines.

I love this type of painting! I think yours turned out great. If I could paint even half that good I would be happy. I believe I must have the same sort of painting talent as your sister:) Wow, a sheep from a tree--your mom is good!

I gotta say, your painting looks pretty good to me, I can make stick people, and they don't even look so good.

Hey, that's real good, you did a great job on it even if it's not done yet! I wish I could paint!

Sorry Mikki that this is my first comment ever, but I had to defend myself...lol. You are right, that it looked like a tree with fingers but I definately didn't claim to be a Grandma Moses!!!! To all Mikki's blog friends, I have to say that she is one of the most talented people I know. She takes her creativity after our mother. I must have taken my creativity after the tree with fingers!! Mikki is also wayyy too creative in her writing. She takes that after our dad! She has a special way of making her poems and stories come to life!

Oh, Mikki Jo...what a shame about your painting and it's funky patch. I'm sure next to your little sister's it looks like a master piece, but really, hon...it probably needs to be just packed into a box and shipped somewhere far, far away...you can address it to the Desperate Horsewife at 3635... =)

Seriously, just put a few daisies or tulips there. It's great! (And will you please, pretty please, post the sheep?)

ypics4Looks great, Mikki. I am going to try chinese watercolor. If I ever master it I will post a pic. By the way--I believe my GG_mother crocheted. I have tried tatting several times, but with a shuttle. I am going to try the MJ way. she has instructions in her new book. Ta MB

I love your primitive primitive! That strange patch might be where the little boys and girls slide in the mud just for fun. Do you ever think about 'finishing' the painting and displaying it? I would. I would brag alot if I painted this!!

Mikki Jo,
Got my spice balls today, you are right they smell really good. Now if we could just get some sweet Annie, I think I will ask a florist about it. That little bag that Frannie sent me last year still smells great. I guess it must be filled with dried annie.
I put the spice balls in my entry, everytime I came in the house today I could smell them.
