~~Amen

I turned the wooden box over, and gasped. There on the bottom in my grandma's handwriting was my name. I don't know when she wrote my name on the bottom of this box but she had been gone about 13 years when I found it. I showed it to Papa and he smiled. Of course he made me take it home with me. It sits on my dresser where I can see it several times a day, everyday. I often turn it over just to read where my grandma wrote my name, and to admire her oh so familiar handwriting. It always takes me back to when I was a child, admiring the box. I can still hear grandma softly telling me to be gentle with it. But she always let me hold it and admire it. It was a treasure box to me, holding treasures not yet found. It's my treasure box still today, because it holds such special memories. And brimming over with love, with my name lovingly placed on the bottom. So many times I've looked at this treasure box, and wished with all my heart I could say, "Ohhhh grandma, thank you, thank you. Thank you soooo much!" Today I'll say a prayer, "Dear Lord, tell my little grandma, thank you, and tell her I love her." ~~Amen

My Grnadma did the same thing. She also made notes and taped them to all her treasures so we would know who gave them to her, when, and why. I bet Grandma Ethel and your Grandma are probably great friends above.

What a precious story!
I just talked to my Mamaw by phone as so many memories of Easter are tied up to her!
My Mamaw would let us go through any of her things when we were little...and to this day I have to be careful not to say something is pretty or I'll end up bringing it home...she is just that generous natured!
I'm so glad you got the box as she meant it for you!!
Happy Easter Mikki Jo!!

Oh Mikki, I'm so glad you have the box, I was wondering in the first post where it was, then the tears ran after seeing your name on the box, how sweet and such a special treasure for you to have. I never knew my grandmothers but it's things like this that I miss but will be sure to leave my grand daughters plenty of! Hugs!!

Mikki, I'm enjoying your blog and wanted to comment on this story. When my mother passed away my sisters and I were going through her things and deciding who was going to get (or needed) her china cabinet. I don't remember now who was taking it but the guys moved it a little and a scrap of paper fell from the bottom with my name on it. It just said "for Hope". That scrap of paper was more precious to me than the china cabinet!
Thanks for sharing.

I just linked to you for the first time from the Thinking Blogger Award. This post made me cry. How sweet. Being a grandmother myself I trust my grandchildren will feel the same about things when I am gone.
